Where Does Sadness Go?
sometimes I write poetry
As a writer, there are times when poetry is the best way to express my experiences. Poems can say a lot in a small space...sometimes more effectively than an essay. Sometimes it's the best way to be vulnerable. In fact, raw edginess is a reason I love the book of Psalms! This week I'm sharing a poem I journaled months ago...and I hope you'll enjoy something in a little different format from the usual.
Where Does Sadness Go?
Where does sadness go… when left gnarled and un-tended? when the prescribed time for grief runs out but sadness didn’t get the memo? Does it just disappear… when told to get over it? when a smile — however empty — goes further than tears — however real? Where does sadness go… when it overstays its welcome? when it drives people away? Does it simply fade… like a friend who once asked, but now, it seems, the sadness is too much — too contagious? Where does sadness go… in a place with no room for it? Ignored by the world, sadness… gives a headache, a stomachache, a broken heart-ache. But it also… goes into a collection, a bottle of tears, a record in a book. God’s book. Where does my sadness go? To my God Who cares. -MDJ (2023)

Thank you. What you’re penned resonates with me!
“Well, it is but a little while and He will appear to answer all enquiries and to wipe away all tears. I would not wish, then, to be of those who had none to wipe away, would you?” -J.H.T.
“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes” (Rev. 7:17)”
“The Lord Is Near” is one of my favorite devotionals. One of the writers is also the editor of the devotional, Brian Reynolds @wordsofthislife . The devotional for October 3 finds the OT saint, Hannah, and her story of suffering. This is the link to this devotional. https://gbv-online.org/calendar/773/date/2023-10-04
