It Just Makes Sense
experiencing the world, one sense at a time
One of the ways God created humans to explore the world is through our senses. It Just Makes Sense is a place to share a few recent experiences that have engaged mine.

Sight: Today was my favorite day at the library! I love the NCKLS1 rotating book collection, and today we got a new shipment. The books come in heavy-duty, extra large canvas bags and seeing them rolled into the library on a cart every couple months makes me so happy. Plus, I love arranging them on display shelves :)
Sound: “Mom! Your new pots are here,” I hear Child A announce from down the hall. Last week husband Brad surprised me by ordering the rest of a set of pots and pans that we had purchased two of while on vacation in Kansas City. Crate & Barrel is a lovely store to visit, but in a “look but don’t touch” sort of way. However, these pans were on final sale clearance (!!!2), which brought them down to the purchase zone. Pretty sure the color is no longer trending, which is how they ended up on my porch. Works for me. Now to unbox…
Smell: I know we’re several weeks out — but it’s still July — and really, who can forget the smell of lingering fireworks smoke? *cough, cough, cough* We always try to take in at least one Royals game in the summer, and always shoot for a fireworks night. This year we went on July 3 and were treated to a combo fireworks/drone show. It was neat — and the Royals won. Also neat!
Touch: Husband Brad and I have been tiling…and tiling…andtilingandtilingandtiling… My job is the “back-butterer extraordinaire” which essentially means my hands are perpetually covered in mortar.
Taste: This month I managed to snag a mini cake from local baker, Rachel Bakes3, via a post on social media. Not only was it adorable, it was a flavor I’d never tried before. On their own, I’m not a fan of maraschino cherries, but they worked well in this cherry sundae cake! My favorite part was the chocolate ganache. YUMMY!

I feel lucky to have access to such a fabulous baker in my town…and that I can call her a friend! Even if you’re not close enough to make an order, she frequently posts her work on Instagram with the handle rachelbakes.22 and her photos alone will brighten your day!

I love this concept and your post, Malinda! Here’s mine:
Sound—The birds outside my window while I was writing this afternoon. Also the How to Train Your Dragon 2 soundtrack while watching with my girls :)
Taste: the spinach steak salad from Cava I had for dinner
Feel: the very soft blanket I’m under right now
Smell: my favorite nag champa skin oil that makes me feel happy inside
Sight: my 13-year-old’s dragon drawing that won our local library’s teen art contest
