It Just Makes Sense
experiencing the world, one sense at a time
One of the ways God created humans to explore the world is through our senses. It Just Makes Sense is a place to share a few recent experiences that have engaged mine:
Sight: On social media I shared a Finishing Touches post of a home renovation transformation my husband and I completed a few months ago. The room went from ugly basement laundry room/random desk (which at one point also functioned as my office) to a cozy bedroom for Miss Middle Daughter. I’m still not tired of walking into a room I used to hate but is now pretty! If you enjoy seeing photos of home transformations — there are more of this one, too — I’d invite you to join my Instagram or Facebook writing platforms, as I try to routinely post about my family’s ongoing home renovations…both platforms are @malindadjust
Sound: At church recently, I found myself on the verge of tears all morning. Fall brings up a lot of painful church memories, and on this particular morning, all the sounds were off. Even though there’s nothing inherently wrong with the sounds at our new church, that morning everything seemed to remind me of the ways things *should* be, but aren’t: the pews don’t creak the same, the wind doesn’t rush through the door same, my feet don’t sound the same on the floor…the congregational voices, the singing, the pastor’s voice…none of it is the same. And sometimes I still want it to be the same.
Smell: I opened a packet to make hot apple cider on Halloween and the smell was wonderful. It actually made me smile. I tried sharing it with my son, but he wasn’t as appreciative.
Touch: Over the weekend I separated a box of used building bricks between Lego and all the imposters. It not only started hurting my fingers and nails from pulling them apart (IYKYK), it also inspired me to write a new article on discernment. It should be ready for next week, so stay tuned! (and subscribe so you don’t miss anything new)
Taste: I made my Aunt Carylee’s Swedish meatball recipe on a cold, wet Kansas day and it hit the spot. Bonus: the recipe made enough meatballs to get a completely different meal for another evening. Saving even a little on groceries right now is helpful!
I’d enjoy hearing some ways you’ve recently used your senses, so feel free to let me know in the comments, or, if you subscribe, you can also reply to the email where you received this post.
